Our team of dedicated tutors come from all walks of life armed with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in their chosen field of study. Many of our tutors also have post-graduate degrees such as a Master’s or a PhD. In addition, the majority of our tutors come from MOE or ex-MOE backgrounds which makes them extremely familiar with the Singapore school syllabus.
The prices for our tuition lessons vary greatly depending on the student’s study levels, the tutor’s qualifications, frequency, and whether it is a group or private lesson. In general, they range between $30 to $100 an hour but we have special packages from time to time. Give us a call or drop us a note and we can certainly work something out!
There is no minimum number of sessions, and we can start with a one-session trial. However, our multi-lesson packages are way more economical in the long run so once you decide on a specific tutor and frequency, we’d suggest you opt for a package instead which will work out to a much lower per-lesson cost.
We offer numerous levels of tuition lessons! From English, Math, Science, and Mother Language at the primary level to ‘A’ Level, IB, and IP English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, Geology, and History, we strive to fill ALL your academic needs!
You’ll need your school textbooks, homework materials, and any notes you might have taken. We can provide extra materials such as external notes from top schools, past year exam papers and tests, and interactive learning materials such as audio files, charts and diagrams.
This is a matter of deep personal preference. One-on-one tuition classes usually allow for a more dramatic improvement in the subject and an immediate change in grades. Many students do extremely well with personalised attention and a dedicated tutor that can adapt teaching methods to unique learning styles. However, some students like learning in a collaborative environment alongside their peers and will do well in a group class.
Nothing in life is absolute, but statistics don’t lie! Although there are exceptions to every rule, the fact remains that private tuition lessons have been shown to cause a dramatic improvement in grades in almost all students.
Give us a ring or drop us a note! After a few screening questions, we’ll match you with a suitable tutor for you or your child’s academic level and schedule a trial lesson. After the test run, we can chat further about the frequency, goals, and specific needs of the student.
We understand students are busy kids, and balancing school activities like classes, homework, and studying with out-of-school activities can be overwhelming. That’s why our tutors try their best to accommodate you depending on YOUR schedule. Chat with them on the best way to schedule lessons!
Yes, you sure can! Most of our tutors provide lessons on weekends and public holidays, but be sure to check in advance.
Each student has a different learning capacity, so sessions can vary in length. However, the duration of one hour is the most used, while some students do well with a two-hour session.
You can cancel or reschedule your lesson up to 24 hours before the allotted time without penalty. However, if you cancel less than 24 hours before the start of the next lesson, you’ll have to pay a 50% lesson fee penalty. Our tutors have obligations, families, and regular lives too, and changing schedules at the last minute can be extremely disruptive to them.
If your child isn’t satisfied with his or her current tutor, we encourage you to sit in on a portion of the lesson to see if you can figure out what’s going on behind the scenes. If you are still not satisfied with your tutor, we will discuss the issues in detail with you so that we can suggest an alternative tutor and match you more suitably. Swaps are free!
Depending on your child’s age, academic level, and learning style, our tutors might provide interactive learning materials such as charts, cue cards, books, audio and video files, and puzzles. At Private Tutor SG, we believe that sharing is caring, so all students also will have complete access to past exams, tests, notes from top schools, and other academic materials.
First, a tutor will evaluate a student’s knowledge level and seek to fill any gaps, building a strong foundation for advancement in the future. A student will also get to learn at his or her own pace, without being stressed or anxious about keeping up with the rest of the class.
In addition, not all students learn the same way. Some might be visual learners and do well with study materials like charts and drawings while others might be auditory learners who thrive on audiobooks, educational films, recitals, or lectures. Our tutors are trained to identify the unique learning styles of each student and adapt their teaching methodologies to optimise learning.
Lesson frequency is greatly dependent on the student’s capacity, attention span, and the current level that he or she is at. A student who is lagging far behind might benefit from two or three sessions a week to catch up, while one who is on par with the rest of the school class can have a session once a week to clarify any doubts and have regular assessments on the progress.
We teach students of all ages from the little ones in preschool to adult professionals seeking to get a leg up. Our Japanese classes are offered to students as young as five years old!
We will have an open, honest chat with you or the student’s parents to thoroughly understand your needs, goals, and learning styles. We’ll then go through our extensive database of qualified tutors based on qualifications, soft skills, and teaching methodologies to come up with the best match. We’ll then arrange a trial lesson and take it from there!
Yes, you certainly can! If you receive a recommendation from an external party, feel free to sound us out and we’ll arrange that specific tutor for your child. Keep in mind that not all students learn the same way or at the same pace, so if you give us your specific requirements, we can also suggest some alternatives for you to evaluate.
Our tutors teach everything from preschool, PSLE, ‘O’, ‘N’, and ‘A’ Levels, IB, IP, and more advanced programs for adults and tertiary students.
Our tutors have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, but they are selected not only on academic qualifications but also on other skills such as their proven track record, attitude, versatility, creativity, and problem-solving skills. We also value and appreciate soft skills like kindness, patience, and empathy.
Yes! The majority of our tutors come from MOE and ex-MOE backgrounds, which makes them super familiar with the Singapore school syllabus.
We encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s education and maintain lines of regular, open communication. We also conduct frequent assessments and feedback sessions to closely monitor the child’s progress and ensure that we are on the right path to your goals. In short, the parents, the tutor, and the student should all work together as the trifactor of academic success!
Yes! We believe that practice makes perfect, and many students start by being fearful, stressed, or anxious when it comes to test time, let alone exam time. We mitigate this by providing numerous practice tests and exams using past year papers or tests obtained by top schools. The more they practice, the better the grades once the mistakes are explained and understood. The better the grades, the more confidence a student has, so when it comes to exam time, the sky’s the limit!
